Your pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Sounds strange, right? You haven't even conceived yet! You probably won't conceive until at least two weeks after your period because conception can only occur after ovulation and most women ovulate around two weeks after their period. However, the time of ovulation can vary from woman to woman, and from cycle to cycle for the same woman. You're likely to be sure of when your period started but not so sure when ovulation or conception occurred - this is why pregnancy is counted from your LMP. The term used to describe how far along you are is called 'gestational age'.
Your baby hasn't been created yet. Your partner's sperm can only fertilize your egg after ovulation. However, sperm production takes 10 weeks and your egg was developed whilst you were still in your mother's womb - so whilst your baby hasn't been created, it's possible that the two cells (sperm and egg) do exist!
