If your baby is born between 37 and 42 weeks it is considered term, and fully mature at birth. The further a pregnancy develops the higher the chance of a better outcome for you and your baby. Babies born prior to 37 weeks are considered to be premature. Premature babies require special medical attention. However, todays medical intervention has enabled babies born as early as 24 weeks to survive, although they will have to deal with many possible complications and many weeks in hospital.
Your baby now weighs around 2.4 lbs. (1.2 kg) but is still less than half the weight it will be at birth. There's lots of fat still forming under the skin.
Your baby's pupils now react to light, but still won't necessarily keep to a day or night time sleeping or moving about regime!
Hemorrhoids are a form of varicose veins in the rectum that are caused by the uterus pressing down, and increased blood flow to the area. They are common during the third trimester of pregnancy. They become inflamed, itchy, swollen and painful.
Your nails may be growing faster than ever and pregnancy hormones may also cause them to become dry and brittle. Trim them regularly.
Jot down a list of questions for when you go to your antenatal appointments. Having pregnancy brain can cause you to forget what seemed so important can cause you to feel frustrated and angry with yourself. Instead, jot down the queries you have as they crop up. Never feel embarrassed to ask your health care provider a question. You can be guaranteed it’s been asked a million times before.
Now is a good time to stock up on breast pads. Colostrum (the pre-milk that will be your baby's first food) can start leaking before baby arrives.
